ADDITIONAL PARAMETERS REQUIRED FOR IFC & COBIE
The parameters provided out of the box from Revit do not map directly to attribute fields in IFC. There are several additional parameters that need to be created in order to do this. The table below outlines the most common parameters required and what they are used for.
PARAMETER |
TYPE OR INSTANCE |
ADD TO CATEGORY |
DESCRIPTION |
IfcDescription | Instance | Any component category | Defines/overrides the type description for each instance of a component when exported to IFC. |
IfcExportAs | Type | Any component category | Instructs the IFC export to assign a specific entity to a component. For example, when a floor is used to model floor finishes but assign it as IfcCovering An enumerated predefined type may also be included e.g. IfcCovering.CLADDING If the predefined type is not specified exports as NOTDEFINED. |
IfcExportType | Type | Any component category | Instructs the IFC export to assign a specific IFC predefined type to the component. If set, overrides a predefined type defined using IfcExportAs |
IfcName | Instance | Levels | Renames any level exported to IFC and COBie.Floor.Name. Allows you to name the levels internally as needed for drawing creation and to project standards when converted to IFC. This parameter can also be used to define/override the name for both object instances and type objects. For example, to define the object number where Mark isn’t available. |
IfcPresentationLayer | Type | Any component category | This defines/overrides the layer name for each instance of a component when exported to IFC. For example, assigning A-Ss3042M-FloorCoveringAndFinishing as a layer name to a floor being exported to IfcCovering. |
SiteName | Instance | Project Information | Names the IFC Site and populates the COBie.Facility,SiteName field. If this is not added and completed, the site ends up being called Default. |
ZoneDescription | Instance | Areas and Rooms | Specifies the description of the zone that the area/room belongs to when exported to IFC and COBie.Zone.Name. For example, Zone 02 Ground Floor. |
ZoneName | Instance | Areas and Rooms | Specifies the name of the zone that the area/room belongs to when exported to IFC and COBie.Zone.Name. For example, Z0.2 |
