Revit does not use layers, but layers are an important aspect of standard information exchange and must exist for any IFC content. Out of the box, the layers you end up with from Revit will not be UK standard. To force Revit to export BS1192-compliant, here’s what you need to do:
- Create a copy of the exportlayers-dwg-BS1192.txt.
It is important to note that this file isn’t strictly BS1192-compliant as it uses superseded CI/SfB codes rather than Uniclass.
Store this in your central resources if you have one. If you don’t it’s a very good idea to create a library on a server for consistent sharing of standards.
Edit the contents to map each Category to the desired layer name:
Add the full path to this file in your revit.ini using ExportLayersNameDGN.
Now, when you export to IFC, layers will be automatically mapped to the correct layer codes:
